New steps for Verdensballetten
Unusually, Verdensballetten has four new works on its program.
Four striking artists, four gripping stories and four spectacular and moving choreographies – all created especially for this year’s performance.
We can’t wait to present the four creative and innovative artists and their amazing work – we guarantee a unique experience with dance never seen before.
Gemma Bond on the wish list
This is the first time VerdensballETTEN presents a work by Gemma Bond in the program.
Gemma Bond is from England and was associated with The Royal Ballet of London until she joined American Ballet Theater in New York in 2008.
This is also where she created her first choreography in 2010, and since then she has created a large number of works for some of the major companies. In addition to American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, The Royal Ballet of London, Joyce Ballet Festival, Ballet Nacional de Cuba and The Sarasota Ballet performed her works.
Gemma Bond has previously stated that she is passionate about telling stories about what’s happening today that we can all relate to. Stories we recognize ourselves in.
The new work is a beautiful solo created especially for Astrid Elbo. Earlier this summer, Astrid Elbo spent time in New York working intensively with Gemma Bond in her studio at the Center for Ballet and the Arts – a collaboration that Astrid Elbo has revealed has long been high on her professional wish list.
The result speaks for itself – a new powerful and intense dance experience has been created.
Spectacular finale by Steven McRae
Steven McRae – Artistic Director and principal dancer at The Royal Ballet in London, Verdensballetten has previously created new ballets for Verdensballetten. Last year, he created a virtuoso pas de deux entitled “For the Love of Dance”. Together with Iana Salenko he danced himself and showed in his choreography why both he and Iana Salenko are considered two of the world’s best dancers.
This year, Steven wanted to present a new work that ends the evening’s ballet performance in a festive and unusual way. He has thus created something very special in the form of a pas de quatre, where four dancers come on stage with another virtuoso tribute to ballet as an art form.
A great end to a magical evening!
