WEATHER POLICY, CHILDREN & TERMS OF PURCHASE

Can you dance ballet in the rain?
It’s a very special experience to sit under the stars and watch some of the world’s best ballet dancers perform their very best on a stage in the middle of nature. As an audience member, you’ll get up close and personal to see the wind in the beautiful costumes and the sun glistening in pearls and sequins, while swallows and larks almost fly in time to the live music.

However, the Danish summer can be capricious, and at Verdensballetten we always prepare thoroughly for the day’s weather and thus the conditions for the performance. In the video below, you can experience a short excerpt from a performance with rain.

Below you can find answers to some recurring questions about changes in wind and weather. wind and weather:

If the weather forecast promises rain?
At Verdensballetten we always strive to deliver the best possible performance and we very rarely cancel. However, it may prove difficult to complete the performance as planned for reasons of both safety and artistic quality.

However, we have many opportunities to ensure our audience a performance despite a questionable weather forecast:

  • We can move the start time +/- one hour
  • We can extend/shorten/cancel the break
  • We can change the order of the program and customize individual features
  • In special cases we can move the performance indoors

Dress code
We are pleased that World Ballet audiences usually come very well prepared with appropriate attire and warm blankets. In case of rain, raincoats are the best solution, as we do not allow umbrellas for the sake of visibility.

What about the beautiful costumes?
There is a wide variety of costumes in the show and most of them are made for sweat, stretching and tough conditions – they can often withstand a few drops.
The stiff skirts, also called tutus, become soft from water and will therefore be replaced with another suitable skirt. If the stage is damp, soft dance shoes will also be worn.

How about lifts and pirouettes?
At Verdensballetten we have some of the most dedicated dancers who will go through fire and water to not disappoint the audience – but never at the expense of safety and artistic level.
Sometimes they leave their pointe shoes on, and other times they are inspired by showers, wind or heat and adapt tempo, lifts and pirouettes to make the experience even more intense and different.

So yes, our dancers can dance in the rain – however, like our audience, they prefer blue skies and bright sunshine. Below you can experience a short excerpt from a performance with rain from Verdensballetten 2023 in Fjordenhus.

How will I be notified of changes?
We will clearly inform about any changes on the day of the performance, so please keep an eye out:

  • email
  • text message
  • Homepage

We follow several reliable weather radars throughout the day leading up to the performance time, but will of course inform you of any time changes as early as possible so that everyone can adjust.

In the unlikely event that we have to cancel completely, this will only happen on the day immediately before the performance starts.

You can find more information about our general terms and conditions of purchase in the Returns section.

BALLET AND CHILDREN?

Is Verdensballetten for kids?

  • Verdensballetten is primarily created for an adult audience. We recommend the performance for children from around 7 years and up.
  • The performance lasts up to two hours and includes classical music, singing and speaks, which can be challenging for younger or active children.
  • The show is performed outdoors in nature, where surfaces and visibility vary.
  • There are no child or booster seats available and smaller children may have difficulty seeing the stage. For older children, front row seats in the selected sections are recommended.
  • As in other theater rooms, moving around is not allowed during the performance and children should be able to sit quietly at all times.

Verdensballetten can be a great and unforgettable experience for curious and patient children – but please consider whether the form and duration of the performance is right for your child.

If you have any questions, we are happy to help with advice prior to ticket purchase.
