Dance you’ve never seen before

A complete performance.
Once again this year, Verdensballetten’s artistic directors Jens-Christian Wandt and Steven McRae have created a performance with gems from the diverse world of dance. Ballets that touch, impress and surprise.

A complete evening of ballet should offer a captivating start, a thought-provoking centerpiece in the pause for reflection, a poignant moment in the second half that can lead to a sweeping and celebratory finale. All emotions should be activated, and the audience should feel their senses being awakened and excitement bubbling over a terrific whole.

We are therefore proud to present both known and loved classical repertoire, modern dance and new steps created especially for this year’s ballet performances.

Look forward to four new works from some of the world’s most talented and contemporary choreographers.

Joshua Juncker sparks.
Last year, up-and-coming Joshua Juncker created a funky ballet with dancers in red and white football outfits – a beautiful work with a humorous twist. This time he has created a pas de trois – a work for three dancers.
Experience our beautiful ballerina Astrid Elbo dancing with Verdensballetten’s talented gentlemen Xander Parish and young Norwegian Lukas Brændsrød in a sparkling intermezzo to southern music by Piazolla.

Steven and Iana in a passionate Bolero.
Our artistic director Steven is not only a gifted solo dancer with charisma and passion, but also a fantastic choreographer. For this year, he has created a virtuosic and fiery pas de deux for him and his prima ballerina Iana Salenko. When the two dance together, they radiate total energy and pure magic happens.

We promise you’ll also get to see Steven in a tap number – this time with a touch of a cold and wet island kingdom.

Heartfelt Cohen.
This year’s program also offers a heartfelt moment in the form of a solo created to Leonard Cohen’s eternal classic Hallelujah. With this piece, Verdensballetten’s German chamber dancer Marian Walter makes his Verdensballetten debut as choreographer. We look forward to presenting his touching solo.

Modern dance and a Christmas classic.
In addition to new works, the program also includes excerpts from one of the world’s most danced ballets, Petipas and Tchaikowsky’s The Nutcracker, from which you can experience a beautiful pas de deux between Astrid Elbo and Lukas Brændsrød.

You can also enjoy modern dance including the ballet entitled “Ballet 102” by world-renowned choreographer Eric Gauthier. Last summer, he created the powerful and heartfelt pas de deux “Les Adieux” inspired by the war in Ukraine, danced by Ukrainian ballerina Iana Salenko and her husband Marian Walter.

Iana and Marian are dancing together again this year and Eric Gauthier says:
“I am overjoyed to have Iana and Marian present ‘Ballet 102’ this summer… your audiences will LOVE it!!!! It’s super balletic but charming and funny… and both of them look amazing in it!”

You can experience all new choreographies at all venues this summer, and we look forward to presenting you a star-studded program from 10 July – 6 August.

We hope to see you soon!
